Once again, it has been brought home to me that I have a sadly puerile mind. For whenever I hear the news that Chancellor Alistair Darling is having to deal with yet another embarrassing incident, all I can think of is the Blackadder scene when Stephen Fry's General Melchett said 'Captain Darling will pump you thoroughly in the debriefing room."

your right, all you would have to do is change the name and it would apply to him almost every time E.G
Captain darling " I wasn't born yesterday, Blackadder. "
blackadder " More's the pity, we could have started your personality from scratch. "

Hee hee. Love it! (Though the ending always makes me cry!)

Gordon Brown is certainly like Melchie, but who is Balderick? There is no politican smart enough to be blackadder though

It really doesn't bear thinking about that there is a government minister like Balderick.
And it's a shame, MP Blackadder would get my vote anyday.

I am thoroughly fed up today when I think about the dreadful way the government is going at the moment. I'm afraid I find it hard to laugh at Darling - I just want him to go away and do something somewhere where he can't be annoying. Sorry to be so humourless.

I know what you mean - it's all pretty depressing. But thank you for visiting my blog and commenting, even if I couldn't cheer you up

It gets worse. England are 2-0 down.

It's even worse now. Oh woe, woe. It's like a wake in this household.

Its been like that all day in ours. This is just the fine end to a dandy day.

Sorry to hear that - hope today gets a lot better!

Oh the football has been on here too and now my hubby is shouting at the telly....loudly! At that point I left the room!
I think that our Alister has a very odd look about him and due to that I can't take him seriously. You seen those eyebrows??

You are so right - very odd. Looks like he might be more at home on Star Trek or something - er, I didn't mean your hubby, of course!

No matter how often Stephen Fry repeated the opener "You know, Darling..." it never failed to make me laugh.

Nor me! It was brilliant, wasn't it?

It so was. In fact, you've just filled me full of nostalgia - I might have to ask for the DVD at Christmas.

Write it down on your wish list for Santa quick. I think I'll go for 'Are You being served?' - that makes me snigger too!

I was reading about Darling in our paper this morning. Something about losing a couple of CD's in the post with lots of child benefit receivers details on. They reckon they cannot have fallen into wrong hands!!
I think if I was him, I would have changed my surname. Very hard to take seriously, and he must have got well teased at school.-
- 23.11.2007 @ 16:08:59
Me too! What kind of parent would saddle their child with the initial 'A' in front of Darling, too!

Lol, hadn't thought of that,
